Las Memorias - Una historia oral del Museo de Arte Abstracto Español
Resultado de un proyecto de investigación creado desde el Programa Educativo del museo y comenzado durante la pandemia, la exposición muestra una serie de piezas audiovisuales sobre el pasado reciente del museo. El equipo curatorial de la muestra ha invitado a vecinos del casco antiguo de la ciudad de Cuenca a contar lo que recuerdan de la creación del museo hace casi sesenta años, del impacto sobre sus vidas, pero también del barrio que habitan y la ciudad que lo circunda y cómo han cambiado.
En entrevistas breves, los protagonistas, muchos de ellos buenos conocedores del museo y la ciudad, desgranan y cuentan al mundo las historias de este y de sus artistas. El resultado es un archivo de la memoria y un registro de recuerdos, toda una auténtica “historia oral”, en la expresión acuñada por Joseph Gould en 1972 para reivindicar su trabajo como historiador de Greenwich Village (Nueva York), cuando vagabundeaba por las calles, plazas y casas escribiendo relatos de la gente común y corriente de aquel barrio neoyorquino.

The Memories - An oral story of the Spanish Abstract Art Museum
Started during the pandemic, it is the output of a research project created by the Museum Educational Program. This exposition shows some audiovisual pieces about the recent museum past. People living in the old city part of Cuenca were invited to tell what they remember about the events that took part during the museum creation 60 years ago, how it impacted the neighborhoods, their lives, and how the city changed.
During some brief interviews, the starring, many of them very good aware of the museum and the city, explain the histories about the museum and its artists. Actually, these are their memories, a real “oral story” like the expression created by Joseph Gould in 1972 to defend his work as historian in Greenwich Village (New York) when roaming in the streets, squares and houses while writing stories about common people of said New York neighborhood.
This exposition can be currently visited in the Spanish Abstract Museum of Cuenca - Juan March Foundation from June 7th 2022 until February 13th 2023.
